It’s easy to get to via ferry or seaplane from Nadi and it’s popular with backpackers and luxury travellers alike for its natural untouched beauty and miles of white-sand beaches. Offering affordable resorts and lodges run by locals, it’s an ideal place to visit a fishing village, swim or, if you’re feeling more daring, snorkel with sharks on Kuata Island.

Discover Fiji’s rich colonial past in the Lomaiviti islands, located off the Eastern coast of Viti Levu. These clusters of islands have an untouched appeal, making them ideal to fish, dive and snorkel to experience the abundance of marine life in crystal clear waters.

Things to do

Diving is almost mandatory in Fiji and the dive companies cater for everyone from beginners to advanced divers. Fiji is considered a must-do on any diver's bucket list as the variety of coral reefs and marine wildlife is vast and very different depending on where you dive. Some of the best spots include:

Taveuni - a place to see big reef fish and incredibly colourful soft corals. Home to the highly-rated dive sites Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall.
Bligh Water - surrounded by the picturesque islands of Koro, Wakaya and Namena in the Koro Sea,Bligh Water is a treasure trove of tropical ocean life.
Kadavu Island – renowned for the famous Astrolobe Reef, you'll find mantas playing over vast fields of pristine hard corals, some of the best diving in southern Fiji.
Viti Levu – the place to go for a shark feeding dive. Experienced divers and thrill seekers head here, and  it’s also one of the easiest to access from Fiji’s mainland .

Apart from sipping cocktails, swimming and relaxing by the pool, a few of our other favourite things to do in Fiji include a visit the Kalevu Cultural Centre to learn about the ways of life, history and traditions of the warm and friendly Fijian people. You can also book a tour of an authentic village, where villagers live in traditional thatched roof bures, to experience traditional Fijian culture first-hand. For a faster pace, you can take an adrenalin-fuelled guided safari on jet skis around the tropical islands. There's plenty of package options available to book an island cruise or Hula tour with Qantas Holidays.

With a warm tropical climate which rarely moves out of the 26-31°C range, it's no wonder Fiji is one of the world's greatest holiday playgrounds. The best Fiji weather is late March through to early December. November to March is wet season although this tends to be in short sharp bursts with tropical afternoon showers. The Yasawa and Mamanuca islands are your best bet for dry days at this time of year.

Getting around

From the airport

Qantas flights to Fiji arrive at Nadi International Airport, on Viti Levu, after which you'll need to organise a transfer to your hotel or island if you are leaving the mainland. If you're staying on Denarau Island hop on the Bulla bus that can easily drop you at your hotel or jump in a metered taxi.

You can fly to the larger Fiji islands like Vanua Levu, otherwise you will have to book a boat or ferry ride. You can get to smaller Fiji islands such as Kadavu, via local boats, resort-owned catamarans or private planes.

Getting around

Getting from Nadi airport to other areas in Fiji is easy as there’s a good network of ferries, boats and carriers for travel within the mainlands. Hiring a car is also a good option to explore  Viti Levu with short distances from Nadi to Coral Coast, Suva or Pacific Harbour. For travel to the islands a majority of the carriers depart from Port Denarau.
